Samsung Handset Sales Jump 16 Percent On Touchscreen And Emerging Market Sales
Strong sales of mobile phones helped Samsung, the worlds second largest handset maker, boost third quarter operating income at its telecommunications unit to 1.03 trillion won ($871 million), up 23 percent compared to a year ago, the company said in its earnings statement. The number of handsets sold jumped to 60.2 million units, bolstered by strong demand for its touchscreen phones and in emerging markets, a 16 percent rise compared to a year ago.
